Cyanotype Printing or Sun Prints

Cyanotype: A Unique Blend of Design, Photography, and Nature's Whimsy

Cyanotype, a captivating photographic print process, unveils a world of cyan-blue prints. This artistic technique involves arranging objects on the light-sensitive medium and exposing them to sunlight, an intriguing silhouette effect is achieved. Each cyanotype created is an original, making it a one-of-a-kind artwork.

Cyanotypes trace back to 1843 when Anna Atkins, an English botanist and photographer, pioneered the process with being the first person to publish a book illustrated with photographic images.

For me, cyanotype represents the perfect fusion of my design skills, love for photography, and appreciation of the natural world. I am enchanted by the simplicity of using sunlight to create prints with unpredictable results that emerge based on light, time, and the chosen elements. Each cyanotype is a unique, akin to the development of a photograph.

Currently, I am working on a series of cyanotypes on various mediums such as watercolor paper, Irish linen, canvas, and handmade papers. Some of my favorite pieces are available for purchase at Distrikt By Mia Store, located at South Quay in Wicklow. Alternatively, you can reach out to me directly.
